The castle seen from the village

The Your Castle is a privately owned castle dating back to the Renaissance in the village of Upper your home , community Grettstadt in the district of Schweinfurt in Lower Franconia .

history

Euerburg Castle was built by Georg Christoph von Bibra from 1571 to 1591 and expanded in 1595/96. It is located on a hill dominating the place, has three wings and three round towers . There is a coat of arms of the Bibra family above the side gate of the entrance with the inscription: "Heinrich von Bibra 1596".

Since 1880 the castle has been privately owned by the von Heßberg family with their headquarters in Thuringia , whose castle there was demolished after the Second World War and is still inhabited by descendants of the family today. Once a year there is a music serenade in the castle . The castle cannot be visited outside of this event.

Building description

The two-storey castle wings surrounding an inner courtyard are marked by a protruding round corner tower at the outer corners of the southern long wing , another is located on the northwest corner of the west wing. The floors are structured with belt sills. The short upper floor has a dome. At the northeast corner of the west wing, a small transverse building protrudes into the inner courtyard.

In the south-west corner of the inner courtyard a round stair tower gives rise to the upper floors. The Renaissance portal is flanked by two fluted Corinthian columns . The bas-relief behind it shows a young couple with a bouquet in their hands. The portal is also crowned with the coat of arms of Bibra.

In the courtyard side of the west wing is an arched entrance with seating niches and a stone tablet carried by caryatids . The inscription seems to indicate a restoration under Heinrich von Bibra. The east wing is a later extension. A piece of the older curtain wall with loopholes and a parapet ledge joins it to the north . Since the owners were Protestant, Protestant services were held in the lower entrance hall of the castle in earlier times, while the vast majority of the Obereuerheimer are Catholic.
