Klingenberg Castle (Wipfeld)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Klingenberg Castle is rechtsmainisch on a ridge approximately one kilometer south of the community Wipfeld and is first mentioned in 1230. Since the 13th century it has been the official seat of the Klingenberg Office of the Würzburg Monastery . It was completely destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. Under Prince-Bishop Konrad III. from Bibra the reconstruction took place until 1543. The official seat was moved in 1792 to the neighboring Schwanfeld . In 1805 the municipality of Wipfeld acquired Klingenberg. After the sale to a private citizen in 1829, the owners changed hands several times. After the Second World War, Dürkopp-Werke AG Bielefeldt set up the Hermann-Barthel-Heim as a recreation center for employees. Since the 1970s, the castle has served as a family seat again.

The three-storey three-wing complex with front gables and a trapezoidal inner courtyard as well as the neck ditch with a brick bridge have largely been preserved to this day.
