The Volkach is a thirty kilometers long left and eastern tributary of the Main in Bavaria .

course

The Volkach begins at the confluence of Grundbach, Holzbach and Mühlbach in the municipality of Michelau in the Steigerwald between the districts of Prüßberg and Neuhausen. For the first few kilometers to the Michelau location, it is still called Aubach , and from here on Volkach . It flows first in a westerly direction through Dingolshausen and Gerolzhofen , then shortly to the north to the confluence of the Silberbach and in the lower reaches with the main direction southwest through the villages of Frankenwinheim- Brünnstadt, Kolitzheim- Zeilitzheim, Volkach - Obervolkach and the town of Volkach . Then it is passed through a culvert under the Main Canal , which shortens the Main loop from Nordheim for inland navigation . On the Weininsel , it flows into the Main in the Alter Main nature reserve near Volkach , south of Volkach-Astheim.

fauna

In the Volkach, brown trout , brook loach , bream , gudgeon , Mühlkoppe , hazel , pike , carp , rainbow trout , eel , aitel , roach and tench , as well as the stone crayfish and isolated crayfish in some backwaters can be found. The beaver has also been observed since 2017.
