Brünnau is a district of the city of Prichsenstadt in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .
Geographical location
Brünnau is located in the far north of the Prichsenstadt municipality. To the north is the district of Schweinfurt, to the east is Bimbach . Neudorf extends to the southeast, and Neuses am Sand joins in the south . Here, near Neuses, you can also find the Stolzenmühle , which is part of the Brno district. The west is taken by Järkendorf .
The nearest, larger cities are Gerolzhofen , which is about 5 kilometers away, and Kitzingen , which is 19 kilometers away.
In terms of nature, Brünnau and its district are part of the so-called Steigerwald foreland of Neuses . Characteristic for this part of the Iphofen-Gerolzhofener Steigerwaldvorland is the hilly appearance with the narrow river valleys and small streams.
history
The traces of settlement in the area of today's district go back to the Mesolithic . In 1963, a stone ax from this period was excavated in the Long Line parcel east of the village. A permanent settlement of the so-called linear band ceramists was also located there. The present-day place arose much later and was called "Brunne" or "Brünn" in the first documents.
During the Middle Ages, the Counts of Castell ruled the village until Count Heinrich II received the bailiwick rights to the Benedictine monastery in Münsterschwarzach in 1306 . Before that, the Casteller Counts had already lent some goods to the Lords of Seinsheim and the Fuchs von Bimbach . Later the village finally belonged to the Fuchs von Bimbach.
In the 18th century a Jewish community was formed in the village and existed until the beginning of the 20th century. During the Second World War , an American bomb fell on an open field between Brünnau and Järkendorf. The American invasion took place without destruction. They reached the village from Schallfeld and drove on the same day to Neuses am Sand.
In 1972 Brünnau became part of the newly formed Prichsenstadt municipality.
Attractions
The village's Protestant church was built in 1705. A roof turret contains the bells. The entire equipment was created together with the building . Only the font did not enter the church until 1717. The altar shows the resurrection of Christ on its sheet , the excerpt shows St. Michael . The pulpit and organ case are decorated with rich acanthus work .
In addition to the church, some secular buildings in Brno are worth seeing. The inn dates from 1699, the former schoolhouse was built in the second half of the 19th century. A mill was renewed in the 18th century. The memorial for the fallen from 1922 was donated by a former Brno who had emigrated to America.
In the past the area around Brno was known for its quarries . Today these are closed and protected as natural monuments. Fossilized crabs and shells were often dug up there. The quarries also supplied the building material for the Münsterschwarzach monastery church .
