The Siechhausbach is a brook in the Steigerwald foreland in the area of the town of Iphofen in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . After a roughly 3 km long, essentially west-northwest run, it flows on the edge of the Iphöfer city center from the left with its right main upper course Wehrbach to the Sickersbach . The Siechhausbach is a 3rd order flowing water all year round .

geography

course

The Siechhausbach rises at about 301  m above sea level. NHN , at the western foot of the Vogelgesangberg ( 413  m above sea level ) and initially runs in an open corridor along a gravel road to the west. Before it takes up the wastewater from a sewage treatment plant near Einersheimer Strasse, it only carries inconsistent water. Then it swings under the local road to Markt Einersheim at the southern tip of an Iphöfer settlement zone and now follows on the right side the gravel path that continues to the edge of Iphofen's old town. Changing direction from northwest to southwest and crossing the district road KT 19 Iphofen– Birklingen , the stream then runs parallel to the city moat, which is also water-bearing, from which it is only separated by a path, and to the city wall behind it. After it was soon spanned by a road bridge from the old town to the district road leading in the other direction to Willanzheim, the Siechhausbach leaves the fortification strip at its north bend again under the street Am Stadtgraben West that follows it on the outside . Between the settlement areas of the city, some distance away, it now continues west-north-west through meadows, initially still twisted. After crossing under Mainbernheimer Strasse , the Siechhausbach then reaches the course of the right weir stream, accompanied by a tree gallery , with which it rises to about 243  m above sea level. NHN flows together to the Sickersbach .

The Siechhausbach has an absolute gradient of around 58 meters over a length of 3.4 km and thus a mean bed gradient of around 17 ‰.

Catchment area

It covers about 5.5 km² and is located in the northern part of the Hellmitzheim Bay in front of the western Steigerwald in the sub-area of the Steigerwald foreland of the Mainfränkische Platten natural area . The highest elevation in the catchment area is the Vogelgesangberg , a western spur of the Steigerwald slightly east above the headwaters, which is 413  m above sea level. Reached NHN .

The bay is located on a larger watershed, the waters to the east of it - the next main body of water is the Bibart - ultimately run in the old Danubian direction south-east into the Aisch , which also drains into the Main via the Regnitz , but into the Upper Main with one large detour through Middle and Upper Franconia, while the Siechhausbach and its other neighboring waters drain via Sickersbach and Breitbach to the Main of the Main triangle.

From the confluence of the Siechhausbach with the more important right Wehrbach, its northern and right watershed runs over the Kalbberg ( 412  m above sea level ) to the Vogelsangberg. Only here on the Spornhöhe is the Bibart catchment area for a short time, after which the catchment area border runs approximately southwest over the hill ridge Aschenberg ( 341  m above sea level ) a little north of Einersheim to the western edge of the market village; beyond that, the Moorseebach drains westwards to the Breitbach . After a bend in the left watershed to the west-north-west, it runs in front of the Sparnbach , which also strives towards the Breitbach tributary of the Main, up to just 286  m above sea level. NHN high hill near the substation on Willanzheimer Straße. From there, back to the mouth, there is about a kilometer of western watershed, on the opposite side of which the catchment area of the Sickersbach lies below the confluence of its upper reaches.

The source area of the Siechhausbach is located in the LSG landscape protection area within the Steigerwald nature park (formerly protection zone) LSG-00569.01 and thus within the Steigerwald nature park .

Geologically, the catchment area lies on the upper reaches of the Gipskeuper until about the first contact with the Iphöfer settlement area , while the lower reaches lie in the Lower Keuper .

Worth seeing

The catchment area in the source area is part of the Natura 2000 network and designated as a protected area DE6327371, Vorderer Steigerwald with Schwanberg . The brook runs in the city wall moat of the historical city fortifications of Iphofen .

useful information

The plague gate in Iphofen

The name Siechenhausbach comes from the Upper German Siech for sick and thus for a body of water that is located at the infirmary . In fact, there was an infirmary in front of the Einersheimer Tor until 1570, which may have temporarily replaced the older hospital. The plague gate of Iphofen, which still exists today but is walled up, fits in well with this, and the Siechhausbach flows past it a short distance away.
