history

founding

Since 1797 attempts have been made to found a drawing school in Osnabrück, but the magistrate rejects this request for lack of money. The drawing school for builders and carpenters was not founded until 1822. Classes should be held on Sundays. In the beginning there were only two classes with a total of 125 students. Not many students came to class because their master craftsmen did not give them time off. From 1838, lessons were also given on weekdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Expansion of the school

In 1903 a full-time teacher was hired, and from 1910 classes took place during the day. The school gained in importance and the number of students grew from year to year. In the time when the number of full-time teachers in the countryside was still low and lessons were given by part-time teachers, the Osnabrück vocational school was the training center for these teachers for many years. In numerous holiday courses, part-time teachers were trained by full-time teachers for teaching.

The vocational school was technically expanded. It had 23 workshops and practice rooms. It was housed in the former Protestant teachers' college and in the Stuckmannshof building.

Move to Brinkstrasse

The number of pupils rose rapidly, so that the Osnabrück district decided to build a commercial technical vocational school on Brinkstrasse. On April 1, 1960, the newly constructed building was ready for occupancy. Over the years, various types of vocational school have been added in addition to vocational training: vocational school (1962), technical college (1969), basic vocational training year in metal and electrical engineering (1973), technical high school (1975), technical assistant for computer science (2002).

The BBS Brinkstrasse campus grew with the increasing number of school types and students. In 1995 a building was inaugurated that is used as a laboratory wing for electrical engineering. In 1999 a former barracks building was expanded into a center for mechatronics and automation technology. After 2000 the administration building and a sports hall were rebuilt.
