The Berwaldhalle in Stockholm

The Berwaldhalle is a concert hall in the Östermalm district of the Swedish capital Stockholm . It is named after Franz Berwald , one of the most important Swedish composers of the 19th century.

The building was built between 1976 and 1979 on behalf of Sveriges Radio according to plans by the architects Erik Ahnborg and Sune Lindström . Since then, it has been the venue for the radio station's symphony orchestra. For two thirds of the building a cavity was blasted into the existing rock so that only a small part is visible from the outside. The building thus blends in unobtrusively with the adjacent park landscape.

The concert hall has space for 1,300 visitors and up to 100 musicians can gather on the stage. This hall is hexagonal and has particularly good acoustics .
