Sune Lindström

Sune Lindström (* 1906 ; † 1989 ) was a Swedish architect . He became known, among other things, for the Svampen water tower in Örebro .

Sune Lindström received his training at the Technical University in Stockholm 1926-31, where he also spent a year of his studies at the Bauhaus School in Dessau . After graduating, he was employed by the Kooperativa Förbundets arkitektkonor (architectural office of the Swedish Cooperative Consumer Cooperative ), at that time the largest architectural office in Sweden.

1937-39 Sune Lindström was head of the urban planning department of the cooperative housing company HSB , where he planned, among other things, the Stockholm district of Reimersholme . During his time as chief architect for the Swedish multinational consulting firm Vatten Byggnads Byrån, VBB , Sweden's largest consulting firm in the construction sector, he designed the main development plan for Karachi . In Sweden he designed the main development plans for several medium-sized cities.

Svampen in Örebro

His most well-known building is certainly the 58 meter high water tower Svampen (the mushroom) in Örebro (1954–58). Water towers of the same design were built in different countries. a. a 33% larger copy is located in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh . In Kuwait there is a group of 3 column towers from 1979 with 0/1/2 spheres, the highest tower has a revolving restaurant on its upper sphere .

The high-rise of the Wenner-Gren Center from 1959 is a striking feature of Stockholm's cityscape . From 1959 to 1969, Sune Lindström was a professor in urban planning at the Technical University in Gothenburg .
