Beschat-schemat is the ancient Egyptian name of an oil that was already documented as a commodity in the early days of Egypt.

From the grave of Semerchet ( 1st Dynasty ) near Abydos comes an annual tablet that originally belonged to a container of oils. It contains the label (Beschat-schemat) Oil of the first-choice quality from the plant MJ . Günter Dreyer thinks it is possible that this oil could have been imported from Libya .
