Overfill (pressure)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Overfill or bleed designates the space to be printed which extends beyond the final format when the pressure is falling (i.e. a pressure up to the immediate edge of the substrate ).

To obtain a borderless printing, to print first to a larger medium and cuts then this to the desired format. Without such a bleed, there will be unsightly or unprofessional white stripes on the edge.

All elements that are to be visible up to the edge of the final format must be created beyond this edge. In offset printing and digital printing for standard sizes, this is usually a surcharge of at least 3 mm on all sides.

In Adobe InDesign , trapping is called bleed and can be defined in the Document Setup dialog box . Also, for example, in free layout program Scribus in is document properties a trimming setting available.
