Undertaker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The funeral specialist has been a state-recognized training occupation in Germany since August 1, 2007.

Duration and structure of the training

The training is carried out in funeral homes and in cemetery administrations. It lasts three years. The vocational schools in Bad Kissingen , Wermelskirchen and Springe are responsible for school education in the form of block lessons. The practical training is carried out in the company and includes, among other things, the rescue, transfer, care, clothing and embedding of the deceased. Grave technology, product knowledge, decoration, counseling and grief psychology are taught in three inter-company courses in the federal training center for undertakers in Münnerstadt .

In the practical part of the training, the consultation with the relatives, the organization, planning and control of the funeral , the calculation and accounting, but also the notarization of a death at the registry office as well as all formalities to be processed after a death are conveyed. This includes, for example, deregistering a deceased person from the health and pension funds .

The Federal Association of German Undertakers recommends a training allowance of € 400.00 in the first year of training, € 450.00 in the second year of training and € 500.00 in the third year of training, as well as the assumption of the vocational school costs of € 500.00.

Apprenticeship contracts are entered in the apprenticeship role of the Chamber of Crafts if the training takes place in a craft company . If a company that is registered with a Chamber of Commerce and Industry provides training, the training contract will be supervised there. The profession of undertaker is free and can be practiced without training or examination. Only the training is regulated. There are efforts (and counter-efforts) to regulate the occupation by conferring the status of the craft or the similarity to the craft.

professional school

The vocational schools for aspiring funeral directors are located in Bad Kissingen, Wermelskirchen and Springe. Lessons take place in blocks of 2 or 3 weeks each. In addition to general subjects such as German, English and religion, lessons with job-related subjects such as care and burial, business processes, advice and support take place there.

Inter-company training

The inter-company training of funeral workers usually begins in the second year of training. The national training center for undertakers (Theo-Remmertz-Akademie) in Münnerstadt is a uniform nationwide place of instruction . During their training, trainees must take part in a total of three inter-company apprentice training courses.

midterm exam

The intermediate examination serves as a performance control for the trainee and their trainer. The result of the intermediate examination is not included in the final examination, which means that it only has a learning control function and provides the trainee with their current level of training. There is a practical and a written intermediate examination.

Journeyman examination (final examination)

The journeyman's examination is divided into four examination areas:

  1. Conducting the funeral (practical)
  2. Business and administrative processes (in writing)
  3. Funeral organization (in writing)
  4. Economics and Social Studies (in writing)

Advanced training

There are training opportunities u. a. to the Undertaker and to the Certified Undertaker, to the Office Communications Specialist for the Funeral Industry, to the Certified Customer Advisor for Cemetery Service or to the Certified Thanatopractor .

Undertaker

The undertaker is an independent advanced training course (around 11 months part-time), which represents a higher degree than the undertaker. This training is especially for executives or experienced undertakers. The training to become an undertaker is regulated in a binding manner by nationwide ordinances of the Federal Ministry of Economics. It supplements the ordinance on the training occupation “Funeral Specialist” and offers all graduates of the three-year training course a further qualification perspective at master level.

Certified thanatopractor

The training to become a thanatopractor imparts both theoretical and practical knowledge. The training to become a thanatopractor is divided into a theoretical and practical block and concludes with the state-recognized examination for a certified thanatopractor.
