Stun arrows are special arrows that are used from stunning weapons ( stun gun , blowpipe ) to immobilize animals from a distance. They are basically constructed like a syringe , but the cannula has a side opening that is closed with a movable plastic tube. If the cannula hits a target, the plastic tube is pushed back, exposing the opening so that the contents of the syringe can empty. There is a propellant charge in the rear part of the syringe, which can either be an expanding gas or a pyrotechnic propellant .

For flight stabilization, threads are attached to the end of the arrow. As a filling, various drugs are mostly used in mixtures, such as. B. the Hellabrunn mixture , but also barbiturates , ketamine , carfentanyl or xylazine .
