The stun gun is an invention of Colin Murdoch , further developed by a team led by Tony Pooley and Toni Harthoorn in Kenya in the early 1960s. In addition to the blowpipe and the crossbow, it has proven to be the standard tool for the immobilization of large and medium-sized animals . Either CO 2 or explosives are used as propellants . Since its energy exceeds 7.5 joules , it is subject to gun law . Special stunning arrows are fired , which are usually filled with the so-called Hellabrunn mixture .
