Betaine island

The Betainsel ( English Beta Island ) is a small island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in the Melchior Islands group immediately north of the Kappa Island and southwest of the Alpha Island .

Participants in the British Discovery Investigations mapped them in 1928 and named them after the Greek letter beta in connection with the naming of the other islands in the group . The betaine island was measured as part of Argentine expeditions in 1942, 1943 and 1948. In Argentina it is known as Isla Rodeada ( German  "The island surrounded by other islands" ).
