The Bethlehem Church is a Protestant church in Kiel-Friedrichsort .
history
Built in 1875 as a Prussian garrison church, the vernacular called the timber - framed half - timbered building “ wooden church ”. Until 1945 it was a garrison church of the Navy and served Protestant and Catholic Christians together as a place of worship until 1953. It is unusually not geosted .
The newly founded Ev.-Luth. Parish Friedrichsort (today Pries-Friedrichsort ) the church, which however remained property of the federal government until 1999. The church is the only preserved wooden sacral building from the period after 1870 in Schleswig-Holstein and has been a listed building since 1988.
In 1987 the church was given the name " Bethlehem Church " due to the inauguration date - Christmas 1875 .
In 1999 the “Bethlehem Church Association” acquired the building. The non-profit association guarantees the use for church services and cultural events.
Motif
A depiction of the Bethlehem Church was used as a motif on the Kiel Christmas cups in 2008 and 2009.
