Bed change

As Bettenwechsel the transition of a hotel room or apartment of departing referred to arriving hotel guests, which generally meets on Saturdays.

Hotel rooms or holiday apartments are often booked by the week for holiday purposes, starting on Saturday. In some cases, this is made mandatory by hoteliers during the holiday season in order to avoid vacancies . Many holidaymakers use the weekend, especially Saturday, for their arrival and departure. The weekend driving ban in the summer months in combination with the Holiday Travel Ordinance reinforces the choice of Saturday for arrival.

At the beginning and at the end of school holidays and on weekends, changing beds in holiday areas and the highways leading to these areas often leads to traffic jams. In Germany, this phenomenon can be observed in particular when several federal states or neighboring states release their students into the school holidays at the same time . In the six-week summer vacation, this phenomenon increases after three weeks in the middle of the vacation. In order not to aggravate the traffic situation, transport companies will refrain from day- to- day construction sites during this time , if possible.

The concept of changing beds has been used in the tourism industry and in reporting on transport since at least the mid-1990s.

In popular culture , the concept of changing beds was used for book titles.
