Bettina Simon

Bettina Simon (born September 27, 1957 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German politician (non-party, formerly Die Linke ). From 1991 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2009 she was a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life

After graduating from high school, Bettina Simon studied business administration from 1976 to 1980 at what was then the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz University of Technology ). After graduating with a degree in engineering and economics, she then worked there as a research assistant until 1983 . From 1983 to 1989 she worked as a councilor for trade and supply in Löbau , from 1989 to 1990 as a councilor for trade and supply at the council of the Löbau district . Simon has been working as an independent financial advisor since 1991.

Bettina Simon is married and has two children. She doesn't belong to any denomination.

politics

From 1976 to 1990 Bettina Simon was a member of the SED , from 1990 to 2007 a member of the PDS and since then a member of the Die Linke party . From 1994 to 2004, Simon was city ​​councilor in Löbau, where she was chairwoman of the PDS parliamentary group until 1999. From 2004 to 2008 she was a member and deputy chairman of the left-wing parliamentary group in the Löbau-Zittau district assembly . Since then, Simon has been a member of the Görlitz district council .

Simon was a member of the Saxon state parliament from 1991 to 1994, and has been a member of the state parliament again since 1999. In the fourth legislative period (2004 to 2009) she was chairman of the petitions committee and a member of the budget and finance committee.

In March 2009, Simon announced that she was leaving the Left Party . The reason given for this was that the party's functionaries and board members would try to expand their decision-making powers and systematically push back the party base. She sees no point in remaining a member of a party in which "democratic-socialist positions are maintained externally, but less and less lived internally".

After the state elections in August 2009 , Simon left the state parliament in September 2009.
