Bettina Szrama (also called Kutsche-Szrama ) (born August 7, 1952 in Meißen ) is an author of historical crime novels.

Life

When Szrama developed a keen interest in literature and history during her school days and her art teacher wanted to send her to the Dresden Art School, her father decided that she would “rather go to the cowshed”. She studied at the agricultural engineering school in Zierow , graduated in 1975 as an agricultural engineer (FB animal production) and then worked in various areas of agriculture, zoology and equestrian sports.

When the Berlin Wall came down, there was an opportunity to revive her literary talent and she wrote a little animal story about her work at the Herrenkrugwiesen racecourse . She completed a literature degree at the School of Writing (Axel Andersson Academy) of the ILS in Hamburg. This was followed by journalistic activities for regional newspapers such as Dewezet Hameln, Schaumburger Nachrichten or the Vlothoer Anzeiger as well as animal magazines.

Bettina Szrama has been writing in the field of fiction since 1994. As an employee of an animal magazine, she had researched the fighting dog scene in Hanover and this gave rise to the idea of writing a dog novel. When she moved to the Weser Uplands, she discovered the Lemgo Witches' Nest , where she was fascinated by the magnificent executioner's house. In her enthusiasm for history and stories, she settled in Vlotho and in the Kalletal, where she rummaged through archives and church records. Her first large book manuscript initially remained in the drawer of a Swiss publisher. She now lives in Möllenbeck near Rinteln. During a visit to Cologne, she noticed the monument to Katharina Henot , who was burned as a witch.

Tombstone of the wild Peter of Hameln

Most recently, she followed the story of the feral boy who was found near Hameln in 1724.

She is a member of the Free German Association of Authors and the HOMER Historical Literature group of authors and is committed to animal welfare. For several years she has been following in the footsteps of her great-grandmother on her father's side until the time of August the Strong .
