Betty Weiss (born May 26, 1959 in Châtel-Guyon , † December 31, 2009 in Clermont-Ferrand ) was a French sports official .

Life

Betty Weiss attended the secondary school Lycée Michel de l'Hospital in Riom , where she obtained her Baccalauréat in 1977 .

After completing her degree in business and organizational management at the Institut universitaire de technologie (IUT) in Clermont-Ferrand in 1979 with a diploma , she initially worked in the private sector. In 1992 she then moved to the public sector, where she initially worked for the Loire-Bretagne water authority . In 1999 she moved to the Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage (Office for Hunting and Wildlife) as Head of Cabinet and General Director . In 1998 Betty Weiss was initially elected to the board of the FSCF (Fédération sportive et culturelle de France) on a voluntary basis. Since 2002 she worked there full time and became the head of the organization. She took over the office from her predecessor Jean-Marie Jouaret.

In this role, she also worked on the work in the field of sport at the Assemblée nationale and represented the French FSCF on the social council of the sports movement Conseil Social du Mouvement Sportif (CosMoS) and on the board of directors of the national association of open-air sports facilities Union Nationale des Centers Sportifs de Plein Air (UCPA) ). In addition, she was Secretary General of the Association and Association Coordination for Culture and Communication, Coordination des Fédérations et des Associations de Culture et de Communication (CFACC).

Club engagement

From an early age she started doing gymnastics, twirling and dance in the sports and cultural association Union fraternelle d'Aubière, where she first trained the youngsters from 1976 and later - parallel to her studies - an adult group (gymnastics and running). These voluntary activities brought her to the departmental committee of the French Sports and Culture Federation FSCF of Puy-de-Dôme in 1992.

From 1996 to 1999 she was President of the Union fraternelle d'Aubière. When she was elected to the steering committee of the French Sports and Culture Federation (FSCF), she immediately took over the national office there, and in this role she participated in the national leadership of the 2000 Olympic Day.

She took over from Jean-Marie Jouaret in 2002, becoming the first woman to hold the position of director of the French Sports and Culture Federation FSCF. True to her motto “work seriously without taking yourself seriously”, she turned the federal headquarters into a real company by building up a whole range of professional qualifications there, both in the voluntary sector and among full-time employees and the elected members of the association. In the event area, besides organizing the regular conferences and annual general meetings, she particularly stood out by organizing the following events: In 2008 with a large university symposium in Cergy-Pontoise (Val-d'Oise), on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the French sports and culture federation FSCF ; 2009 with the winter games of the worldwide umbrella organization of the Catholic sports associations FICEP ( Fédération internationale catholique d'éducation physique et sportive ) in the winter sports facilities of Val-Cenis and Bessans.

In this function she also took part in the sports and cultural work of the Assembleé nationale relatifs au sport et à la culture and cultivated the relationship with the French episcopate.

Further national commitment

She represented the French sports and culture federation FSCF in the social council of the sports movement CosMoS (Conseil social du mouvement sportif) and in the board of directors of the national association of outdoor sports facilities UCPA (Union nationale des centers sportifs de plein air).

  • In 2006 she represented the French sports and culture federation FSCF in the association and club coordination for culture and communication COFAC (Coordination des fédérations et des associations de culture et de communication), of which she was appointed general secretary in 2007.
  • In 2008 she was a member of the training working group of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee CNOSF (Comité national olympique et sportif français).

honors and awards

Betty Weiss received the bronze medal for youth and sport in the course of her promotion on July 14, 2005. On December 31, 2009, she died suddenly.

On January 14, 2014, based on a decision by the management committee of the French Sports and Culture Federation (FSCF), the name of Betty Weiss was given to a meeting room at the federal headquarters.
