Betty J. Winkelman , writer pseudonym Lauren Haney (* 1936 ), is an American crime novelist .

In the late 1950s she worked as a data typist in the government service in Missouri , then in West Point, New York . She later worked for IBM as a technical writer in California . In the 1980s she became interested in novel writing and attended a writing class from James N. Frey . Her first book was published in 1995.

Your first crime series takes place in the 15th century BC. Chr. In ancient Egypt during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut . The main character is Police Lieutenant Bak and the action mostly takes place in or around Buhen , a fortress near the second Nile cataract . The German translation of the first two books was published first. The books were published in the US under the pseudonym Lauren Haney . Three books have also been translated into German (under their real names), seven into French and two into Czech (under the pseudonym).
