content
For an interview with journalist Jay Bulger for Rolling Stone magazine , Ginger Baker talks about his life: his first self-stolen record was with drummer Max Roach , who shaped him. Phil Seamen introduced him to African drum music and heroin. The first successes came with The Graham Bond Organization . With the band Cream , Baker eventually pioneered rock drumming. The bands Blind Faith and Ginger Baker's Air Force followed , various drum duels with other drummers and a six-year stay in Africa. He set up a studio in Lagos, Nigeria and worked with Fela Kuti . Due to a chronic lack of money he had to start new music projects again and again. Withdrawn in Italy, he was abandoned by his wife. In the 1990s he made a comeback as a jazz drummer, and a cream revival brought him money. As an old man he finally retired to a ranch in South Africa with his new wife and his numerous horses .
