Hnutie za demokraciu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hnutie za demokraciu ( HZD for short ) is a Slovak party.

The party was founded in 2002 as a split from the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS). Its first chairman was Ivan Gašparovič , whose surprising election as president in 2004 against his former superior Vladimír Mečiar and re-election in 2009 should remain the only relevant election participation for the party. After the party congress on February 18, 2006, the leadership passed to Jozef Grapa. In the 2006 elections, the HZD only received 0.6% of the vote and thus remained outside parliament. She did not run for the parliamentary elections in Slovakia in 2010 , but recommended the election of the left-wing nationalist Smer-SD .

The HZD was a member of the conservative-Eurosceptic European party Alliance for a Europe of Nations .
