Sesana district

The district of Sesana ( Italian , also Sessana , Slovenian : Sežana , German (outdated) : Zizan ) was a political district in the duchy of Gorizia and Gradisca .

The judicial district comprised areas in what is now the Slovenian region of Obalno-kraška on the state border with Italy and became part of Italy after the First World War . After the Second World War, the area came to Yugoslavia .

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated. The Sesana District was formed from the Sesana and Comen judicial districts in 1868 .

In 1869, 27,142 people lived in the district, in 1880 the district housed 27,167 residents, and by 1890 the number of inhabitants rose only slightly to 28,298 people. The Sesana district covered an area of ​​471.95 km² in 1910 and housed a population of 30,461 people. 29,497 of the inhabitants stated that Slovene was used as a colloquial language. In addition, 146 German speakers, 475 Italian speakers and foreign speakers or foreigners lived in the district. Two judicial districts with a total of 31 parishes belonged to the district.
