District office in Constance

The building of the former district office in Konstanz , built in 1892 , Untere Laube 36 is included in the list of cultural monuments of the city of Konstanz. It stands - highlighted by its close proximity to the Luther Church - on the Lower Laube, where there are other judicial buildings. The Obere and Untere Laube streets run along the former city fortifications and separate the old town area of Konstanz from the “Paradies” district, to which the Untere Laube 36 property also belongs. The following is noted about the building in the monument book of the city of Konstanz:

"Former district office, according to the inscription 'Built under Grand Duke Friedrich MDCCCXCII'; three-storey administration building with a sandstone / clinker facade in the forms of the Northern European Renaissance . Symmetrical, nine axes wide façade with three axle means risalit , about Zwerchhaus with scrolled gables . Above the middle window of the main floor the coat of arms of Konstanz, in the top of the gable the coat of arms of Baden. "

“The compact, strictly structured and well-designed building is on the one hand an architectural historical source for the development of historicist architecture, on the other hand, as one of the most important state buildings of the 19th century in Constance, it symbolizes the upswing that the city was able to register at that time . (...) "

The building was built according to plans by the district building inspector August Braun. The room layout of the ground floor and floors I and II still largely correspond to the original plan. The attic floor was expanded according to today's needs.
