A district fire brigade association in Germany is the respective professional association of fire brigades in an administrative district . Since the municipal or administrative level of the districts is not set up in all federal states, the district fire brigade associations do not exist everywhere. In Bavaria there are corresponding associations in all seven districts. Three district fire brigade associations are affiliated to the State Fire Brigade Association of Hesse : The Nassau Fire Brigade Association , the District Fire Brigade Association Kurhessen-Waldeck and the District Fire Brigade Association Hessen-Darmstadt.

Members are the district fire brigade associations and city fire brigade associations of the respective district. The tasks of the district fire brigade associations are in the area of interest representation , public relations , fire protection education and awareness as well as the promotion of the fire brigade, fire and disaster control , education and training, fire brigade music, the youth fire brigades and children's fire brigades . They form a kind of intermediate instance between the district fire brigade associations and the state fire brigade association .

From the 1970s to the beginning of the 1990s, the German Fire Brigade Association, with its state fire brigade associations, district fire brigade associations and city and district fire brigade associations, annually called for the nationwide fire protection week to be held under a different motto in order to improve acceptance of the fire brigade among the population.

In Austria , in some federal states, the next level under the state fire brigade associations exist in cases when they are a separate body, such as in Tyrol. In the other cases there is only one command structure at this level, which is directly subordinate to the regional association. In Styria there are so-called area fire brigade associations, which emerged from the merging of individual districts from the district fire brigade associations through renaming. Historically, in Lower Austria until 1970, when the fire brigades became corporations with the validity of the Fire Brigade Act, fire brigade associations existed on a club basis.
