The Landesfeuerwehrverband Hessen e. V. , LFV Hessen for short , based in Kassel , is the professional association of Hessian fire services . As an umbrella organization, it represents the interests of the 32 district fire brigade associations (KFV), which are organized through three district fire brigade associations (BFV). The two regional groups of professional fire brigade (BF) and plant fire brigade (WF) are also full members with voting rights. According to the statutes, the Hessian Youth Fire Brigade (HJF) is part of the LFV Hessen. LFV Hessen is a member of the German Fire Brigade Association (DFV) based in Berlin .
The State Fire Brigade Association represents the Hessian fire brigades in the German Fire Brigade Association. LFV Hessen is the publisher of the LFV information service , which appears every six months.
The association and its members are regularly present in the Hessian state parliament, in committees, hearings and committees in Hesse to represent the positions of the Hessian fire brigade.
history
The first fire brigade associations in today's Hesse were today's district fire brigade associations:
- District Fire Brigade Association Hessen-Darmstadt, founded on September 15, 1867 in Darmstadt
- Nassau Fire Brigade Association (NFV), founded on July 27, 1872 in Wiesbaden
- Kurhessisch-Waldeckscher Fire Brigade Association, founded on November 25, 1875 in Hanau
On April 21, 1954, the State Fire Brigade Association of Hessen was founded in the post-war period and after years of tough negotiations in Frankfurt am Main against the background of the state structure . The first association meeting following the foundation took place on September 10, 1955 in Giessen . The first Hessian Fire Brigade Day was held from September 12th to 13th, 1969 in Bensheim .
Ralf Ackermann has been President of the Hessian Fire Brigade Association since April 1994.

Working method
The State Fire Brigade Association of Hessen maintains an office in Kassel with several full-time employees. Each association chairman of a Hessian district fire brigade association is represented in the state fire brigade committee. The chairmen of the district fire brigade associations belong to the executive committee .
The positions of the LFV Hessen are based on the results of the 12 areas of internal professional work, the findings of which are available to both the political association work and the public.
Firefighters
In 2016, around 73,600 active fire service members were registered in the more than 2,400 fire brigades, the proportion of women being 12.0%. There were also around 1,700 professional fire fighters and 2,200 plant fire fighters.
Youth and children's fire brigade
The youth fire brigades and children's fire brigades (for children from 6 years of age) are essential instruments for recruiting young people . In around 2,000 youth fire departments, 25,000 boys and girls are active in the original youth fire department and 3,400 in the children's fire department. The youth fire brigade is represented by the Hessian Youth Fire Brigade, which was founded in 1964 in the State Fire Brigade Association of Hesse. Since September 2019 there has been an award for children's groups in bronze, silver and gold. A previous level is not required
Fire department competitions
The State of Hesse advertises and organizes Hessian fire service exercises at district, district and state level every year . They include a theoretical part (answering the questionnaire) and a practical part (fire brigade exercise with fire fighting and rescuing people using respiratory protection and digital radio ).
Individual volunteer fire brigades from Hessen also take part in fire service competitions that are organized and supported by the LFV Hessen. Through elimination competitions at the state and federal level , Hessian teams repeatedly qualify for the international fire service competitions of the world fire service association CTIF , which take place every four years . In July 1985 , the Nidderau - Eichen volunteer fire brigade was world champion in Austria at the Traditional International Fire Brigade Competitions . At the International Fire Brigade Sports Competitions of the CTIF in July 1993 in Berlin , the Beselich-Obertiefenbach volunteer fire brigade won in the fire fighting discipline and became world champion after having won 3rd place and the bronze medal in this so-called Fire Brigade Olympics in Warsaw / Poland four years earlier .
