The District Court of Abtenau is a listed building in the town of the same name in the Hallein district (Markt 1).

history

In 1528 a building was first mentioned at this point. At that time, Andreas, son of the district judge Pangraz Weibhauser, sold this house to his father's successor, the district judge Wilhelm Frankinger. Archbishop Johann Jakob Khuen von Belasi acquired the property from his heirs in 1564 , exempted it from all taxes and turned the building into a nursing court building. In a description from 1604 it says: “ A dwelling in the market opposite the rectory above ... darbey also stables, barn and cassten sambt ainem garden, inside ain claines Visch-Teichtl. “This also included an office building with two prison rooms and the bailiff's apartment. The armory for the country flag of the judicial district was also located in the nursing court building.

In 1772 the building was so damaged by the stream and the pond flowing by that a new building was planned by the court mason Jacob Pogensperger. This is how the courthouse, which still exists today, was built in 1773.

It is a two-storey building with a projecting central risalit and a north-facing gable. In contrast to the original plans, the building was constructed with seven window axes instead of five; the planned curved gable window was designed as a simple ox-eye . The slightly curved door has been preserved in its original state, as has the tent roof over a wide concave cornice . 1984–1989 the building was completely renovated.

The Abtenau judicial district was dissolved on December 31, 2002 and its districts Rußbach , Abtenau and Annaberg-Lungötz were assigned to the Hallein judicial district.

The former district court now functions as the municipal office for Abtenau.
