Bhakkar (Urdu: بهكر) is the capital of Bhakkar district in the province of Punjab in Pakistan . The city lies on the left bank of the Indus .
history
Bhakkar was probably founded by a group of colonists from Dera Ismail Khan in the late 15th century . During the 15th century, Bhakkar saw a power struggle between Sher Shah Suri and Humayun . The city came under Humayun's rule after he restored the Mughal Empire. Later it came under the rule of the British Empire . During the British rule, Bhakkar was part of the Tehsil Bhakkar in the Mianwali district and was on the northwest railway line. In the 1901 census, the population was 5312 people. The city has belonged to Pakistan since 1947.
