Bhanubhakta Acharya (born 1814 ; died 1868 ) was a Nepalese poet and translator, best known for his Ramayana poetry.

Live and act

Bhanubhakta Acharya was born in Chundi Ramgha in the Tanahu district in Nepal. His grandfather took care of his education. He translated the great Indian epic Rāmāyaṇa from Sanskrit into Nepali , the Khas language. He is considered to be the first poet to write in Nepali. According to the Indologist Helmuth von Glasenapp , his works are said to be as popular in Nepal as the writings of Tulsidas are in Hindustan .

"His gift for poetry is said to have been awakened by being with a pious grass-mower, who made him recognize the transience of the world and prompted him to renounce the world."
