Anton Lochmatter (also Antonius Lochmatter; * around 1480 ; † around 1540 ) was a Valais mayor , grand kastlan and district administrator .

Anton Lochmatter is the oldest known representative of the Lochmatter family , whose family name comes from the hamlet of Lochmatten in St. Niklaus . One of his descendants, Theodul, became Zenden captain of Visp in the 17th century .

Many well-known mountain guide pioneers emerged from the Lochmatter family , who were great innovators in mountaineering and who, in the first two generations, had a decisive influence on mountain guides throughout the world during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Life

Anton Lochmatter acquired in 1505 for 10 pounds , the burger right of Visp. In 1510 and 1521 he held the office of mayor of the civic community Visp, and in 1513 and 1526 of the Grosskastlans des Zenden Visp. He was also a member of the Valais district administrator . He was also part of Cardinal Matthäus Schiner . Anton Lochmatter received a papal pension of 20 florins or guilders on the basis of both the alliance of the XII places along with the bishop and peasants of the Valais of March 14, 1510 and the papal counter-declaration of September 2, 1510 .
