Bhimavaram is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .

The city is part of the West Godavari district . Bhimavaram has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 27 wards (constituencies). It is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in the state as the Somaramam Temple is located here , one of the five most important Hindu temples in Andhra Pradesh.

Demographics

The city's population is 142,184 according to the 2011 census. Bhimavaram has a gender ratio of 1030 women per 1000 men and thus a rare excess of women for India. The literacy rate was 83.1% in 2011. Almost 91% of the population are Hindus , approx. 5% are Muslims , approx. 4% are Christians and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 9.0% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Infrastructure

The city is connected to the national rail network via its own train station. Buses are another important form of transportation.
