B. Ramalinga Raju (born September 16, 1954 ) was the chairman of Satyam Computer Services . The company was founded by Raju and was one of the largest Indian IT companies with sales of more than $ 1 billion. He resigned on January 7, 2009, admitting that he had falsified financial statements . He and his brother were arrested on January 9, 2009. The scandal is considered the Indian Enron scandal.

Private life

B. Ramalinga Raju is the son of Byrraju Satyanarayana Raju from Bhimavaram . He also has a brother (B. Rama Raju) and two sisters. Raju is married and has two sons Teja Raju and Rama Raju and a married daughter Deepti .

He graduated from Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada . He then earned an MBA from Ohio University and an Owner / President course from Harvard University . On December 14, 2007, he received his doctorate from Anna University in Chennai .

Career

Raju was initially active in areas such as construction and textiles. He was able to put his knowledge from the courses in the USA to the test. Then he recognized the opportunities that outsourcing in the computer sector would bring and founded his company Satyam in 1987 . He was able to quickly win numerous customers in the USA. His company grew quickly and spread to other countries. Raju was also socially active with the Byrraju Foundation and the Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI).

The scandal

Raju was investigated because of practices in connection with the company Maytas (Maytas Infrastructure and Maytas Properties, Teja Raju has been CEO since January 3, 2009) and the sale of shares. It culminated in the confession of forging bookings worth 7,000 crore rupees (about 1 billion dollars) and his resignation. The company's auditor was the Indian subsidiary of PricewaterhouseCoopers .

His company was excluded from trading after heavy losses (> 72%) and on January 12, 2009 it was also removed from the BSE Sensex financial index .

Research found that nearly 13,000 employees were made up. According to investigators, her salary was used to buy land.
