Bhoja Air flight 213 was a domestic flight of the Pakistani airline Bhoja Air from Karachi to Islamabad . On April 20, 2012, the Boeing 737-200 crashed in poor weather conditions shortly before landing at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad. There were 121 passengers and six crew members on board, all of whom were killed in the crash.

After it was founded in 1993, Bhoja Air lost its state license due to financial difficulties in 2000 and had to cease flight operations. She was only able to accept him again in March 2012. After resuming flight operations with the accident flight, Bhoja Air operated the route from Karachi to Islamabad for the first time .

Aircraft

The aircraft involved in the accident was a Boeing 737-200 with the aircraft registration AP-BKC. The aircraft with serial number 23167/1074 made its maiden flight on December 13, 1984 and was 27 years old at the time of the crash. It was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney JT8D- 15A engines. Shortly before, it had been leased from Comair South Africa .

The aircraft was on a domestic flight from Jinnah International Airport in Karachi to Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad . There were six crew members and 121 passengers on board. The aircraft took off from Karachi at 17:00 local time (12:00 UTC ) and was expected in Islamabad at 18:50 (13:50 UTC). At 18:40 the plane crashed about four kilometers from its destination, near the village of Hussain Abad . All 127 occupants of the Boeing 737 were killed in the crash. The weather at the time of the crash was extremely unfavorable for a safe landing. Eyewitnesses spoke of strong gusts of wind, hail, lightning and thunder at the time of the landing approach. Although the crash occurred in a residential area, there were no victims on the ground.
