history

The estates (landscape) of the Duchy or Electorate of Bavaria already had their own library. After the statuses were abolished in 1808, the landscape library was largely integrated into the royal court library in 1812. In the first year of session of the Landtag of the Kingdom of Bavaria that was newly formed by the constitution of 1818 , a new Landtag library was set up in 1819. The seat of the state parliament was a building in Prannerstraße in Munich for the entire time of the kingdom until 1918 and beyond during the Weimar period. During the Nazi era, the Bavarian State Parliament was dissolved (1933/34) and the holdings of the State Parliament Library were transferred to the Bavarian State Library . After the Second World War and the new state parliament moved into the Maximilianeum , parts of the former holdings were handed over to the newly established state parliament library. It is located in the old building of the Maximilianeum. The library rooms were renovated in 1984/85 and 2013/14.
