history
The Biblioteca del Museo Correr goes back to the testamentary legacy of Teodoro Correr (1750-1830) together with the museum . Other donors, among them Emmanuele Antonio Cicogna in 1865 and Pompeo Gherardo Molmenti in the 1920s, made it possible to expand the house and its collections. The library has been at its current location on St. Mark's Square since 1922, after being housed in the private house of Corrers until 1880 and then in the Fontego dei Turchi .
The collections include works from seven centuries, including codices , miniatures , incunabula , manuscripts , but also entire holdings. Hence, the museum is mainly one of the book and the printing arts. The total inventory of the library comprises around 120,000 volumes, over 13,000 manuscripts and around 800 incunabula.
On this basis, which was constantly being expanded through acquisitions, a separate research department was created specializing in art history and Venetian history.
