history
The library was founded in 1947. It was initially housed in the city hall of Hanover . In 1961 the company moved to the Leineschloss . In 2010 and 2011 the library was completely redesigned. It takes part in the Hanoverian online library system and is a member of the Lower Saxony Authority Libraries Association .

The library holds 137,600 media items and 600 current magazines. The main focus is on legal and political literature as well as publications on regional studies in Lower Saxony . A special feature of the inventory is the shorthand collection, which contains around 500 monographs and over 50 magazines on the history and development of shorthand .
