The company was founded in 1900 as a writing book and paper goods factory in Biel . In 1908 it produced the first folder in Switzerland, the forerunner of the later federal folder . From 1926 the production of business agendas followed . In 1945 the company introduced the Biella product brand and subsequently changed its name to Biella AG. In 1974 Biella AG in Biel and Neher AG in Bern merged to form Biella-Neher AG . In 1998 Biella-Neher acquired Kadee Delft BV, founded in the Netherlands in 1919, followed by the takeover of Donau-Plastik GmbH, founded in Vienna in 1954, which was subsequently renamed Donau Design GmbH . As part of the growth strategy, Biella-Neher appeared under the new name Biella Group from 2003, but the official company name remained unchanged. In the same year it took over the Dutch Stadtman BV and integrated it. The following year the group founded a subsidiary in Poland. The group of companies has been operating internationally under the Biella brand since 2007 . On March 30, 2012, Biella took over the subsidiaries Falken Office Products in Peitz , DELMET Prod srl in Buftea (Romania) and Herlitz UK Ltd. from the German office supplies manufacturer Herlitz . in Hyde, Greater Manchester (Great Britain). On July 1, 2013, Biella entered into a strategic partnership for the Eastern European market with the Austrian PBS Holding and its Polish subsidiary PBS Connect Sp. Z oo. On January 15, 2014, Biella took over the private label and no-name folder delivery business of Groupe Hamelin. A few months later, on April 15, 2014, Biella acquired 100% of the office supplies business of Carpentier AG from Regensdorf, Zurich. As of September 4, 2014, as part of the restructuring, Biella Deutschland GmbH was renamed Biella-Falken GmbH and its headquarters were relocated from Leopoldshöhe (near Bielefeld) to Peitz (near Cottbus), the location of the production plant.

Biella SimplyFind AG, based in Brügg, Switzerland, was founded on December 7, 2015 and is part of the new corporate vision, which is committed to connecting the physical and digital worlds . Biella opened its first online shop in May 2016.
