Big Boss Man is a Blue song of 1960 by Luther Dixon, the house songwriter of Vee-Jay , and Al Smith, his producer for Jimmy Reed was written. In 1961, the song was released as a single and reached number 13 on the R&B charts, in the pop charts, the title came to number 78. 1960 he was released on the LP Found Love . Along with Bright Lights, Big City , the song was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the 500 songs that made rock and roll . In 1990 he was also inducted into the Blues Foundation's Blues Hall of Fame. In the original version, Jimmy Reed's wife Mamma Reed can be heard as a background singer. In terms of content, the song criticizes a big boss who exploits his workers: “ You got me working, boss man - Working 'round the clock, I want me a drink of water, You won't let me stop… ” (German: “You lets me work, work around the clock, and if I want a drink of water, you won't let me stop ... ")

Impact history

The song has been covered by many rock, blues and country musicians. Probably the most famous was recorded by Elvis Presley in 1967, it made it to number 38 in the charts. Elvis brought the song on his 1968 comeback special and sang it often on tour in the 1970s.
