The Big Sand Lake is a lake in the northwest of the Canadian province of Manitoba .
Big Sand Lake is east of Reindeer Lake and north of Southern Indian Lake . It is located in the area of the Canadian Shield at an altitude of 307 m . The elongated lake has a north-south extension of 70 km and an area of about 240 km². The South Seal River drains the lake at its northern end.
Big Sand Lake is located in the 8,310 km² Sand Lakes Provincial Wilderness Park . Big Sand Lake Airport is on the west bank of the lake .
Due to its great distance from metropolitan areas such as Winnipeg and the lack of road access, the lake can only be reached by plane. Nevertheless, it is the target of fishing tourists. The following types of fish are caught in the lake and in the surrounding waters: pike , American char , eyeglass and arctic grayling .
