Big Youth
Big Youth (born April 19, 1949 in Kingston , Jamaica as Manley Augustus Buchanan ) is a Jamaican deejay who gained fame especially in the 1970s.
Life
As one of five children, he left school at the age of 14 and started working in various hotels. Through his passion for singing and his love for music, he became the DJ of the Lord Tippertone sound system , with which he became known in his hometown. Big Youths music can be classified into the genres reggae or dancehall .
Big Youth is one of the most important representatives of toasting , the spoken song about dub tracks that was created in Jamaica .
His music is said to represent the principles of Zion .
