Big in America is a reality show broadcast by RTL II and VIVA that set itself the task of showing in spring 2005 how Lou Pearlman discovered his new international boy group .

Big in America - The Chance of Your Life (First Season)

The Orlando , Florida- based record and media mogul Lou Pearlman opened the preliminary round in Germany, in which more than 5000 male youths applied - but not comparable to pop stars and Germany is looking for the superstar , as the castings took place in camera. Only four of the 5000 casting participants were selected to audition with Lou Pearlman after he had already selected other guys for the band in the USA. The four boys Richie, Jay , Izzy and Drew were already permanent members of the band. However, due to the great success of the Backstreet Boys and * NSync in Germany , Pearlman wanted to add a fifth member from Germany to his band. Chris, Roger, Peter and Michael fought for the last place in the band. The boys had to take part in dance and singing training for several weeks. One of the four American boys Drew left the band early because he wanted to have more time for his family. He was (temporarily) replaced by another American named Kyle. After a while Peter was sent back to Germany by the producers. Although he had great vocal potential, he supposedly had developed the least. Since this claim was made out of thin air and thus could not be substantiated with image material, the producers had to and must be held responsible for only looking for an official reason for the expulsion of the rebellious, boyband-compatible singer. Roger Moore voluntarily left the field, so that in the end the decision to become the fifth band member only had to be made between Michael and Chris. However, the producers decided to remove the American Kyle, who had only just been added a few weeks earlier, from the band and were able to accept both Michael and Chris into the band. Furthermore, the first joint appearance of US5 was shown, which brought some problems with it, since Michael had disappeared and had to be represented in the television program by Drew. In addition, the band's experiences were shown after the release of their first single Maria . As with the second season, the show was filmed from an open script. The storylines and the further development as well as the result were given in their basic features, but left room for variations.

The first season consists of seven episodes.

Big in America II (Second Season)

The second season of the series accompanied US5 on their first world tour through England and Russia. This season also contained some - possibly staged - "exciters". For example, Chris and Richie were temporarily arrested in Russia (although they can be seen briefly from behind when the others get out of a limousine!), Because for inexplicable reasons they should not have had a required stamp in their passports. Izzy ran into a violent Russian after talking to his "girlfriend". In addition, the situation in England was presented in a pointed manner, as the band's lack of awareness was strongly emphasized by incorrectly written reception signs 4 US .

The sequel was broadcast on VIVA . This show basically has the character of a story-based series for which shooting dates are also set. In the series itself, unsubstantiated claims are often made about the band's success that do not match the actual sales charts. The series has a documentary effect due to its style of camera work , but it is run as a show in most television magazines and also on the broadcasting station VIVA .

The season consists of 13 episodes.
