Bijapur is a small town in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh .

The settlement is the capital of the Bijapur district . Bijapur has the status of Nagar Panchayat . The city is divided into 15 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 16,129 inhabitants, of which 8,786 were men and 7,343 women . The literacy rate in 2011 was 79.8%, above the national average. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of around 87%. Christians form a minority with a share of around 5%.
