Nuremberg Education Center
The Nuremberg Education Center ( BZ ) is the largest public continuing education institution in Northern Bavaria and the second largest adult education center in Bavaria . The program includes around 6,500 events a year from courses, seminars, workshops, lectures, readings, symposia, excursions, guided tours, exhibitions, educational trips, forums and cultural events. They are organized by 90 full-time employees and around 1,000 freelance course instructors.
The BZ sees itself as a house of education as well as a place of learning, culture and communication. It follows the statutory educational mandate to provide education and lifelong learning for all citizens of Nuremberg.
history
In 1921 the adult education center was founded as an independent communal institution. In 1965 the VHS became the education center (BZ). The highlights of the BZ include the Südpunkt in Nuremberg's Südstadt, founded in 2009, in which lifelong learning is networked with professional training, a district library and cultural encounters, as well as the Nicolaus Copernicus Planetarium on the Plärrer, which has been part of the BZ since 1994 and has numerous Events. In 2011, the organizational merger with the Nuremberg City Library and the Nicolaus-Copernicus-Planetarium followed to form the Nuremberg Education Campus .
At the end of March 2019 it was announced that the education center in the building on Gewerbemuseumsplatz should give way to the Bavarian Ministry of Health, which will be partially relocated to Nuremberg. Resistance quickly formed against this. Finally, the city council decided that the education center should stay in the house.
Program offer
The extensive offer of the BZ is divided into the areas of society and culture, health, work and career, languages, basic education and the planetarium.
The 400-page BZ program appears twice a year and is available free of charge in bookstores, medical practices, petrol stations, children's and youth facilities, companies and numerous municipal institutions.
