history

The building, originally called Adolphinum , was erected from 1925 to 1927 and was set up as a boarding school for noble students. The two-storey building under a mansard roof with dormers has a neo-baroque facade. There is a niche bay with a crooked gable, the windows on the ground floor are fitted with wicker bars. The property was rented from Prince Auersperg by the diocese of St. Pölten in 1955 and used as the Marianum Episcopal Boys' Seminar . In 1973 the house was bought by the diocese. From 1977 to 1979 an extensive extension with a chapel was built according to the plans of the architect Paul Pfaffenbichler . The integrated square chapel has an open roof and is surrounded by a tour that is used for exhibitions. The artist Rudolf Kolbitsch created the artistic design of the chapel with an abstract glass frieze, the tabernacle, the Stations of the Cross and a wide etched front door panel . There is an organ. In 1994 the extension was used as the St. Benedict Education Center . In 2006 the episcopal seminars in Melk and Seitenstetten were closed and the old building also became part of the education center .
