Life

Early career

Beach began playing guitar as a teenager , which he borrowed from his cousin. His musical career began in 1948 Beach with a few appearances in the Shorty and Sally Fincher Jamboree show of Shorty Fincher in Wheeling , West Virginia . In the same year he joined the WWVA Jamboree from Wheeling and took part in a tour of the Jambore Ensemble in the summer of 1948. On this tour he played with stars like Hank Williams , Little Jimmy Dickens and Hank Snow .

After Beach graduated from high school in 1951, he and his mother moved to Cincinnati , Ohio , in the hope of advancing his professional music career. He began to work in the Wurlitzer Music Studios and made his first recordings during this time, but they remained unpublished. These early works also include songs with Skeeter Davis .

Rockabilly career

Between 1952 and November 1955, Beach served with the US Marines and took part in the fighting in Korea during the Korean War. After his release, Beach returned to Cincinnati, where he continued his musical career.

In the summer of 1956, Beach switched from country music to rockabilly , which was extremely popular throughout the southern states at the time. He got a record deal with King Records , a successful Cincinnati label, and wrote the songs Peg Pants and You're Gonna Like Me Baby . Beach recorded both tracks in April 1956 with an unknown band (guitar, bass , drums , steel guitar ). King released both songs on a single, but the record didn't get beyond regional success on the radio.
