Bill Blass
William Ralph Blass (born June 22, 1922 in Fort Wayne , Indiana , † June 12, 2002 in New Preston , Connecticut ) was an American fashion designer . He influenced US fashion primarily through his company Bill Blass Limited, founded in 1970 .
Blass began his work as a fashion designer by sending fashion sketches to various clothing manufacturers. In 1942 he went to New York, where he gradually rose to become chief designer at Maurice Pensionner in the 1950s. He acquired this company in 1970 and renamed it Bill Blass Ltd. around. As early as the 1960s, however, he was so popular as a fashion designer that his fashion was advertised with slogans such as Positively Blassfamous and Definitiv Blasphemisch . Blass died of cancer in 2002.
