Bill Miller (producer)

Bill Miller (* 1960 in Queensland , Australia ) is an Australian film producer.

Life

Bill Miller attended Sydney Boys High School with his brother, later director George Miller . Like his brother who quit medical school to become a director, Bill Miller gave up his original legal profession to pursue a career in the film world. Together with his brother and Byron Kennedy he made several short films , such as the 14-minute parody film Violence in the Cinema: Part One . This short film won the Australian Film Institute Awards and gave the three a chance to break into the film business. Bill Miller became executive producer of George Miller's cult film Mad Max, starring Mel Gibson .

Together with George and Doug Mitchell , he was nominated for an Oscar for the producer of the film A Pig Called Babe . The film eventually won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects . The film also won a Golden Globe and received a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Picture. Bill Miller also produced the sequel, Piggy Babe in the Big City (1998).

He also produced the computer-animated film Happy Feet with his brother and Mitchell . To research the life of penguins in the Antarctic , he took part in a six-week expedition. The ambitious project, which Warner Bros. took on for distribution, employed 300 filmmakers and was the most expensive animated film in Australia to date. The worldwide hit film won an Oscar for best animated feature film . Miller also took part in the sequel Happy Feet 2 .
