Bilsk ( Ukrainian Більськ ; Russian Бельск Belsk ) is a village parish in Kotelwa Raion in the central Ukrainian Poltava Oblast . To the east of the village, the terrain slopes steeply to the right bank of the Worskla .
The settlement is surrounded by a prehistoric rampart system. The ramparts are up to 12 m high and over 33 km long. The covered interior space is approx. 4000 ha. In addition, three larger individual fortresses can be identified, which cover areas of 15, 65 and 72 ha. According to a hypothesis by the Kharkiv archaeologist Boris Schramko, these are said to be the remains of the city of Gelonos described by Herodotus .
