Commitment

As a bonding tendency in chemistry is the tendency of metals , with oxygen , referred to bind.

Precious metals such as gold or platinum tend to bind less than base metals such as magnesium or iron . The less noble a metal, the faster it oxidizes .

When metals are burned, their tendency to bind plays the main role in the burning rate. The higher the tendency to bond, the faster and hotter the metal burns. Since metals generally have a higher tendency to bind to oxygen than water, they cannot be extinguished with water, but burn even more. This is based on the redox reaction .
