The Biotrén is the S-Bahn in the greater area of the Chilean city of Concepción .

It is operated by the Ferrocarriles Suburbanos de Concepción (FESUB) company. This company also operates passenger services from Victoria to Temuco . It was founded in 1995 as part of the reform of the Chilean state railway company EFE . The first Biotrén system was put into operation in 1999. It was renewed in 2005. The stations were completely renewed and equipped with platform roofs and barrier-free access. The vehicles were bought by the Spanish RENFE .

The Biotrén runs on two lines. The first line connects the cities of Talcahuano , Concepción, Chiguayante and Hualqui. The second line goes from Concepción to the other side of the Bíobío river to Lomas Colorades. The trains run every hour in the morning and in the afternoon. In April 2008, the off-peak hours service was discontinued for financial reasons. Some trains go on to La Laja, where the north-south route of the Chilean rail network is reached.
